Essential oils are very powerful! Some oils (Lavender & Frankincense) are gentle enough to be used NEAT (without dilution). However, many others need to be diluted. But, you can’t dilute with water… because water and oil don’t mix, ya know? So, you need to mix them with a fatty oil like coconut oil or Young Living’s V-6!
Everyone is different and so is their body’s response to essential oils. The best way to find out is to do a “patch test” of a new-to-you essential oil on your wrist. If it feels a little warmer than you prefer, add some carrier oil to slow down how fast it is absorbed into the body. A few oils that most people prefer to use a carrier oil with are Thieves, Peppermint, and Oregano.
Here are a few safety tips to remember:
1. Essential oils never go in eyes or ears.
2. If you have applied an essential oil and you feel it needs more dilution, apply a carrier oil over it. Never use water, even if in an eye. Water drives oils deeper, a carrier oil will help dilute the effects.
